Money worries - the signs

Feeling anxious over your money or lack of it? Can't pay the bills? In debt and don't know how to get out of it? Many people have money worries. It is one of the biggest causes of anxiety in our society.

Lifeline lists the following signs that indicate people need help with their finances: 

  1. Late bill payments or often seeking extensions.
  2. Minimum or missed payments on credit cards.
  3. Spending less money on necessities e.g. food.
  4. Increasing debt from credit cards or loans.
  5. Legal action for debt recovery.
  6. Fear of eviction by being behind in rent or loan repayments.
  7. Not enough money coming in to cover required spending.

Money worries - the symptoms

And, Lifeline also says these money worries can impact on people's well-being and therefore add to their anxiety. Specifically they say people with money worries can end up:

  • Worrying a lot or feeling anxious over money
  • Arguing with loved ones over money
  • Having headaches
  • Feeling unwell
  • Being afraid to open the mail
  • Having difficulty sleeping
  • Feeling guilty spending money on non-essentials.
