Public speaking anxiety: What is it?

One area in many people's lives where anxiety is crippling is when performing in front of people or speaking in public.

People with public speaking anxiety can end up with stage-fright or a dreadful fear of public speaking - and full blown anxiety. The anxiety can stop people from giving presentations altogether.

What are the symptoms of public speaking anxiety?

The symptoms may include any or all of the following:

  • A fear of speaking in public.
  • Avoidance of any opportunity to speak in public.
  • Fearing you will go blank when you think about speaking in public.
  • Blushing and going bright red when speaking in public.
  • Sweating before speaking in public.
  • Heart pounding before and during public speaking.
  • Going blank when speaking in public.
  • Freezing to the spot as you start to speak.
  • Shaking.
  • A dry mouth.
  • Butterflies in the stomach.
  • Upset stomach - going to the toilet several times while waiting to speak.
  • A fear of losing your place when speaking.
  • Paralysis, panic, anxiety, when looking at an audience.
  • A dread of the audience not approving of you.
  • A belief you will make a total fool of yourself ...
  • and more ...

If you get these problems prior to giving a presentation or during a presentation no wonder you have a fear of public speaking.

The good news is that public speaking anxiety can be overcome and stage fright cured. After all, there are people who love public speaking and giving presentations - it is not an inherently dangerous activity - it is only the mind which makes it so.

I recommend this practical eBook "Overcome your fear of public speaking" to help rid you of your public speaking anxiety. Regain your control.
