Getting on! MBTI team building (W8)

Want to get the best out of your team and find out what makes them tick? Do you have people who have differences in style, personality and outlook? Or maybe you want to integrate new members well, improve your communication flow, and build your team?

You can! In this dynamic workshop you'll discover things about yourself and your team that will help them communicate and understand each other far better. There will be plenty of light-bulb moments!

The workshop is built around the 16 different personality types on the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, (MBTI). But it is far more than simply discovering your personality profile, that is only just the beginning.

Once we have established your type and you have validated it, (a vital step missed out in many MBTI workshops), then the learning really begins. Then you will discover how to apply your knowledge to the practical everyday operations of the team.

You will discover how to talk each other's language, understand each other's viewpoints and know what triggers each other's stress. Team tolerance will build as you learn why people do what they do, say what they say, and think what they think!

There is no point in knowing your type if all you do is file your profile away and forget what it is, as happens in other MBTI workshops. You need to know what to do with it and how use it. That is how this workshop is different.

You will learn how to communicate with your opposite types, and all the different types, in practical real-time exercises - so that you can do this in your workplace, every day.

You will also learn how to analyse the whole team profile and identify the strengths, weaknesses and potential clashes in the team and what to do about them.

And there will be breakthroughs in understanding why different team members get stressed and how the team can best manage them.

And the good news is that no type is right or wrong, good or bad - so it doesn't matter which type you are but it does help to know!

  • Know your own personality type.
  • Discover the essential features of your communication style and how it impacts on others.
  • Understand the communication styles and personality profiles of each team member.
  • Understand how you are the same as and different from the rest of the team and the significance of this.
  • Draw up a team profile of all your personality types.
  • Identify the weaknesses and strengths of the team.
  • Clearly and effectively talk to each other.
  • Reduce irritations, misunderstandings and conflict.
  • Use your own and others' strengths.
  • Identify potential clashes and how to overcome them.
  • Understand the factors that stress the individual team members.
  • Know how each person can reduce team stress.
  • Adapt to the different needs of the different types.
  • Break down barriers and improve the communication flow.
  • Get the best out of yourself, your staff and clients.
  • Have everyone pulling in the same direction.
  • Work as a better team.
  • Any new or existing team who want to get to know each other better and get on really well.
  • All team members.
  • Teams whose communication doesn't occur as smoothly or as easily as they'd like it to.
  • Teams who want to be more tolerant of each other's differences.
  • Stressed teams who want to work better together under pressure.
  • People dealing with difficult people.
  • Managers, executives and supervisors who want to improve their communication, relationship or team-work skills.
  • Everyone who works with, manages or lives with people!
  1. Higher tolerance of diversity and personality differences within your team.
  2. Increased communication flow across the team as a whole.
  3. A greater understanding of the team's strengths and weaknesses.
  4. The ability to avoid potential clashes and overcome any that do arise, more quickly.
  5. Less time wasted on irritations, misunderstandings and conflict.
  6. Greater understanding of the factors that stress the team and improved techniques for dealing with them.
  7. Individual insights into how each of you fit within the team's profile.
  8. Greater understanding of how the whole team fits within the organisational culture.
  9. A greater willingness to pull in the same direction.
  • Available as a 1/2 day. 3/4 day or full day workshop. This is the time that is needed for all the types to understand the significance of their own and other people's types and to learn how to practically apply their new-found type knowledge and turn it into valuable communication skills.
  • Less than half-a-day means that the group will not get the maximum benefits from knowing how to use the type information they gain. This is a practical communication-based workshop and people are not simply given their profiles but are led to understand how to apply the information in the workplace.
  • Also, some types need more than a couple of hours to validate and understand their own type. There is one type in particular that, in Rachel's experience, takes a whole day to agree that they are a particular type. It is thus important to give people enough time to validate their own types to ensure no one is wrongly typed.
  • Shorter workshops aren't available. We have found that in the short workshops offered elsewhere people are given their type results without time to validate them, and some people end up with the wrong type or don't take ownership of their type. (We know this as they have ended up on our doorstep to find out their correct types.)
  • People in a short workshop often just file away the MBTI material without using it - thus they waste your money. (We know this as we commonly meet people who say they have done their MBTI but they have no idea what their types are. This means they are not using it! Our aim is to inspire people to use the MBTI types not only today but also in the years ahead.)

Each person will complete an individual MPTI profile online, before the workshop, to save time during the workshop. Prior analysis also allows the workshop to be designed to best fit the group profile.

The fees for these are to be paid in full, in advance, and can not be refunded as the MPTI profiles are purchased from a supplier and paid for upfront.

This is a very practical, highly interactive workshop with group communication exercises and exercises in pairs. The opposite types are given the opportunity to communicate with each other on real issues of interest, (often to find how hard it is to talk the language of their opposite type!).

People also gain the opportunity to communicate with their like-types so they can notice the differences and similarities across the team. It is eye-opening.

Comprehensive handouts and reading material on the 16 types are also provided. In addition there is quality information based on long-time experience and an in-depth understanding of the 16 MBTI types and their relevance in the workplace.

Lively demonstrations, discussions, group analysis of the team profile, and prizes are also included, ... as well as laughter.

  • Yes! It is based on the results of the people who attend on the day.
  • It is based on the team profile of the participants and not some imaginary one.
  • People will be able to ask questions throughout and get the answers they need.
  • The full team if it is possible and practical.
  • The maximum in each group is usually around 24 if there is only one facilitator.
  • However, smaller or larger groups can be accommodated.
  1. A large room with plenty of space for people to move around easily and break into pairs or smaller groups. They need to be able to sit far enough away from each other so they can still hear their partners speak during the tasks.
  2. A bright room with a window, people learn more easily in a bright room.
  3. A data projector and screen and two tables at the front.
  4. Chairs in rows not sitting round a board-room table.
  5. A list of attendees a minimum of four weeks before the workshop so we have enough time to send you the MBTI profiles and have them completed and returned to you for scoring.
